The Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) engages with clinicians, researchers, and policy makers to better understand primary care efficiencies and gaps to improve health care for Canadians.
The CPCSSN steering committee is made up of science and clinical co-chairs, Dr. Sabrina Wong (University of British Columbia) and Dr. David Barber (Queen’s University), and regional network directors.
Regional Networks
CPCSSN has 14 regional networks, each of which are led by a Network Director and their network advisory committees which provide guidance on key local network issues, including policy and strategic advice. Each network advisory committee is made up of practicing primary care clinicians and researchers.
CPCSSN is committed to research that will provide sound evidence for rational primary care and public health practice and is free of any funding which may prejudice these goals.

CPCSSN Policies
CPCSSN’s policies and procedures around the management of EMR data are inclusive of privacy, encryption, and security considerations, as they ultimately serve to build and maintain relationships with patients and primary care providers.
CPCSSN federates data from regional networks across Canada. The federated data, as well as regional network data, are stored at the Centre for Advanced Computing (CAC) at Queen’s University, which is PHIPA, HIPPA and ISO 27002 compliant.
This Information and Systems Security Policy applies to:
- Pan Canadian CPCSSN Core Server at Queen’s Centre for Advanced Computing
- Regional servers at Queen’s CAC
- CPCSSN Secure Research Environment (SRE) Servers
- Firewall at Queen’s CAC
- Virtual private network (VPN) at Queen’s CAC
- Notebook and desktop computers in academic/health care settings that store any de-identified CPCSSN data
- Central repository database at Queen’s CAC
